  Joy in the Morning

This is a day of good news, and we aren’t sharing it with anyone!                                                             II Kings 7: 9

Hello Friend,

Happy New Year!  I want to begin my writings this year with good news, and I am determined to share it with everyone.  You might be thinking, “What is the Good News?”  Well, here it is!!!  You can have a fabulous new year.  You can be joyful every single day!  You can have peace in your heart.  You can love your neighbor—yes, even the cranky one who complains, steals your newspaper, and allows his dog to poop on your lawn. Really!  You can be singing the song Everything’s coming up roses for you and for me, and mean it.  You can perceive your life in an entirely different light if and only if you set your mind and keep it set.  Proverbs 23:7 says, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.”  What you think in your mind/heart controls your moods, actions, and even your destiny.  May I ask, “What is your mind telling you right now?”  Is it saying, “That’s nonsense. Nothing good ever happens to me. That Linda!  She is always touting that scripture stuff and it hasn’t made a difference in my life.”

What is your mind saying this very moment?  Step one to a quality life:  Observe your thoughts.    Your thoughts control emotions.  Your emotions control your actions.  Your actions determine your outcomes.   Please, please, this week make a list of the thoughts you observe.  Put them in columns.  How many of your thoughts are negative?  This year, let’s finally learn how to observe our thoughts, analyze them, banish the negative and embrace the positive.  I want each day to be a day of good news, and I am passionate about sharing that news.  Join me in this most important endeavor, I implore you.  Let’s live joyfully!

Sharing my journey with you, Linda

Joy in the Morning

The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.' “

Hello Friend,

Okay, here I am again, disrupting your peace of mind.  Oh, I know you like your traditions and celebrations just the way they are.  But remember, my soul is disquieted with the refrain, “O, come to my heart Lord Jesus, there is room in my heart for thee.” Yes, still!  And so I am continuing to contemplate what it truly means to invite Jesus into my heart and home.  Consider the following passage from Luke 14: 12-14:

“When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid.  But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed.  Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.

And reflect on this:  “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat.  I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink.  I was a stranger and you invited me in.  I needed clothes and you clothed me.  I was sick and you looked after me.  I was in prison and you came to visit me. . .whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mind, you did for me” (Matthew 25:35-36).

Can you make room for the least of these?   How will you serve Him this Christmas?  Reach out in love!  Who will be your invited guest at dinner?

                                                                                                                Linda

Is there room in your heart for Jesus?

Joy in the Morning

 Hello Friend,

Christmas is coming. HO. HO. HO.  Or, Christmas is coming, OH, NO!!! Which refrain is your heart singing?

I always share with you my deepest thoughts and insights, and this Advent my mind keeps reverberating with this familiar chorus, “O come to my heart, Lord Jesus, there is room in my heart for thee.”  I know that when this type of occurrence happens, God is speaking not only to me, but through me to you.  For some, this invitation to come into our hearts may require of us a realignment of our thinking.  Do I really want Jesus to make a home in my heart?  Do I really want Jesus at the office Christmas party?  Would He put a damper on people’s fun?  I’m just suggesting that we do some meditating on our celebrations and traditions.

  1. How many colored lights would we need strung across our entrances to welcome Him?

  2. If He came into your home, would He find a Bible anywhere?  Would it look well-loved and worn?

  3. Are there friends you would not invite to dinner with Jesus as honored guest?

  4. Would you welcome Him into your media room to watch TV or a movie?

  5. Would you offer Him some Christmas cheer?                                              Not judging; just asking.  Do you really want Jesus to come into your heart and stay?                                                          Linda
