Clothe yourself with Love

Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything
together in perfect harmony.

                                                                                   Colossians 3:14

Hello Friend,

Well, it’s Monday morning and I have a decision to make. After a weekend of eating things not exactly healthy, I look at my closet and try to decide what will look good together in perfect harmony and yet has enough elastic so the waistband won’t bind.  I tend to clothe myself in mercy for indulgent mistakes.  But our Scripture today tells us to clothe ourselves with love. How do we do that?  Well, here’s my take.

First of all, we should love ourselves—regardless of what the image
portrays in the mirror.  If we are not quite satisfied with our thighs; focus on your luminous eyes.   We are beautiful in God’s sight—created in his image and he doesn’t makejunk.  So this Monday morning, feel good about yourself.  Put your shoulders back and a smile on your face.   Next, our Scripture tells us that when we are clothed in love, our relationships flourish.  If you are comfortable with your own image, you are much more likely to give genuine compliments to others.  To my mind, that is a great way to live.   I will not allow people in my life who are not able to rejoice with me. Surround yourself with people who love and respect you.  You can create
your own mutual admiration society.  I'd like to live in perfect harmony, with a coke or without
.

Conquering Fear

11/4/2012

Hello Friend,

Did you know that the declaration fear not appears 365 times in the Bible? Do you think that God knows that we might have a difficulty in the area of fear?  It is interesting to note that, if we are honest, we all fear something.  Even my rough tough husband has a fear of going to the dentist.  Right after I gave birth to our first son, Jim came into the room and announced he had a terrible toothache; I called from my hospital bed and made him an appointment, and he no-showed.  And there is really no such thing as “friendly skies” for the 25 million Americans who suffer from fear of flying.  My friend, Audrey, has a phobia about snakes.  Some are afraid of germs.  I have conquered the #1 fear which is public speaking.  But there are some lower number fears that keep me caged as well.

The first thing that you and I need to acknowledge is that fear is a thought that originates in our mind and is then followed by a physical reaction.  But fear is just a thought and that is how we conquer it.  We recognize that we are in control of what we think.  Of course, random fear thoughts come into our minds, but we choose to dwell on those images or not.  The minute the thought emerges, remember Jesus’ words, “It’s all right.   I'm here. Don’t be afraid!”   Replace the scary thought with calming words of assurance  If Jesus can, and He did, calm a raging sea;  He can quiet your anxious  mind.  He offers peace. It is the devil who comes like a thief to steal, kill, and destroy your sanity.  Jesus’ purpose is to give life in all
its fullness (John 10:10).   I choose to walk in faith.

                                                                                          Robbing fear of its power,

                                                                                                             Linda
