I tuned in to the weather forecast last night and received the ominous news that we are now in “hurricane season.” For the next several months our attention will be keenly focused on what storm is currently brewing in the Atlantic and where it is headed. We will be stocking up on water, batteries, canned foods, and necessary supplies should the storm be pointed in our direction.
However, for many of us, the storm is already here. Our mind is solely focused on a health crisis, or our shrinking bank balance, or the stress of strained family relationships. Swirling all around us is turbulence. And we long for a moment of perfect peace.
Many years ago, the Army Air Corps wanted to make a study of hurricanes so they sent a plane to fly directly into the storm. When they got inside the center, the pilots didn’t find rain or high winds. Instead, they found perfect calm. Friends, if you are in a hurricane season in your life, pause to find the calm center that God has placed within you. He has promised that if our mind is focused solely on Him, we will find a calming stillness within the raging storm. In such a frame of mind, you will begin to see the way out. “There is a place of quiet rest, near to the heart of God,” if we can just get to the center of the things that upset us. And strength, guidance, and peace will be yours. I claim the peace of God this very moment, Linda
