Pray without ceasing.
                                                                               I Thessalonians 5:17 (NKJV)
Hello Friend,
Have you ever wondered just how it is possible to pray without ceasing? Well, the Bible has advice for busy people who struggle with time and hectic schedules when trying to make room for a balanced prayer life.  Prayer time can be engaged in at any time of the day and it is quite beneficial to focus on the quality rather than the quantity of your heartfelt words.
Morning can be a good time to set the tone for the day, with a prayerful frame of mind.  Mark 1:35 says, “Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He (Jesus) went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.”  Some relevant tips are to take care of some of the morning preparation the night before and include the family in prayer around the breakfast table.
While a hectic schedule can make the afternoon pass quickly, there are still opportunities to grab a few minutes for prayer.  Acts 3:1 says that, “Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour (3:00 p.m.)” If the family or your co-workers gather for lunch, a five-minute devotion and prayer is possible.   Hide out in the bathroom for some private time.  Not the best surroundings, but it is usually private.
Lastly, don’t let your head hit the pillow before offering a prayer.  It is often a nice way to wind down.  “And when He (Jesus) has sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray.  Now when evening came, He was alone there.”
Prayer time is Anytime.  Pray without ceasing.  The Lord longs to hear from you!
My focus is on the Lord at all times,                                                                                                                                                                  Linda

Lord, teach us to pray.

Is anyone among you afflicted (ill-treated, suffering evil)?  He should pray.
                                                                                James 5: 13 (Amplified Bible)
Hello Friend,

Sometimes I wonder just how long we suffer with a situation before we think to pray.  We complain.  We grumble.  We tell our friends.  And, as a last resort, we tell God.  Why do you suppose we do that?
Our scripture in James goes on to say, “Is anyone glad at heart?  He should sing praise [to God].  Is anyone among you sick?  He should call in the church elders (the spiritual guides).  And they should pray over him, anointing him with oil in the Lord’s name.”  Do you know what that tells me?  In all situations, we should pray.  When you have a problem, when you have a need, when someone hurts your feelings, when you are sick, when you are discouraged, or when someone you love is suffering, pray. If you are not sure how to pray, here are some suggestions to enrich your prayer life.  A formula prayer that I learned quite some time ago is:  PRAY.
Petitions (praying for self and others) I like to use this formula because when I am troubled, I need to get my worries off my chest first.  I cannot concentrate on adoration or praise when I am burdened down by a load of care.
Repentance   After I have poured my heart out to God, then my focus is on confession.
Adoration During this time, I like to listen to or sing praise choruses.
Yes  This is perhaps the most difficult part of praying for most of us.  It is simply saying as Jesus did, “Not my will, but thy will be done.”  Accepting God’s answer and not giving him any “Yes, buts.”
Lord, teach us to pray!                                                                                                                                                                Linda

Deepening our prayer life!

The Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.
                                                                                                           John 15: 16
Hello Friend,

Last week I wrote to you about Daniel.  He was steadfast in his faith and prayed three times a day.  I challenged you to contemplate your own prayer life and to think about how you may (or may not) be taking that freedom for granted.
Sometimes we think it is too difficult to pray. If you are frustrated in your prayer life and wondering whether your prayers are really effective, then cry out from your heart, “Lord, teach me to pray.”
Prayer is simple.  It is nothing more than talking and listening to a friend.  In teaching us to pray, God deals with us as individuals with unique personalities, diverse temperaments, and different ways of communicating.  We need to be careful not to compare ourselves with others and to just be ourselves and let him teach us to pray. Being a friend of God—and all that entails—is the key to effective prayer.  Developing a great friendship with God takes time and energy, but it is the best investment of time and energy we can possibly make.
And God will answer your prayers!   However, look at the complete wording of verse 16 above.  “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit-fruit that will last.  Then, the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.  You and I are to be committed disciples who make a difference in our family, workplace, neighborhood, even the world, and THEN, God will give you whatever you ask.  God is not playing, Let’s Make A Deal.  He needs us to be his hands and feet in a hurting world.  And then, God’s rewards our faithfulness.  Isn’t God wonderful!
Prayer:  Lord make me an instrument of your peace.  Where there is hatred, let me so love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, Faith.  Amen
Committed to deepening my prayer life.  Are you?                                                                                                                                                          Linda

Did you think to Pray?

Daniel, one of the Jewish exiles, ignores you, O King, and defies your decree.  Three times a day he prays.
                                                                                                       Daniel 6:13 (Message Bible)

Hello Friend,

This morning I want to talk to you about prayer.  Oh, I know you just woke up and have not had your second cup of coffee yet, and here I come with my Monday message hassling you.  Or, you are already at work or busy tending the kids and think, “I have a heavy workload.   I’m much too busy right now.  Maybe later, I’ll pray.”
A little history:  God’s people down in Babylon were in a sad state.  How unhappy they were, far away from the land they loved.  Statues and temples of detestable idols were everywhere.  The Babylonians believed in many gods with a ruling god named Marduk.  God’s people still knew the God of Judah was the only true God. When the kingdom was divided into 120 providences, Daniel and two others were chosen by the king to supervise the princes.    Probably because of jealousy, the princes began searching for some fault in Daniel, and when none was found, the princes went to the king and told him to make a law that for the next 30 days anyone who prays to anyone, divine or human—except to Your Majesty—will be thrown to the lions.  When Daniel heard the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem.  He prayed three times a day as he had always done.  And as Paul Harvey would say, “You know the rest of the story.”
Ask yourself this morning, how would my life be different if there was a law forbidding me to pray?    Would you continue to pray? Would you be willing to be thrown into the lion’s den for the opportunity to pray (our equivalent of capital punishment)?  Would you pray in secret?  Do you think that solution would be acceptable to God?  In America, we have freedom of religion.  Let’s exercise that freedom and get down on our knees and pray.
This Lenten season, I’m fasting from prayerless days,                                                                                          Linda
