I said to myself, ”Come now, let’s give pleasure a try. Let’s look for the good things in life.” Ecclesiastes 2:1
Hello Friend,
Several weeks ago I quoted the famous adage, “All work and no play make Jack a dull boy.” Last week I explained that God worked, enjoyed, and rested, and stressed to you that a well-balanced life would include all these aspects: meaningful labor, pleasure, and relaxation and rejuvenation. To focus only on our career or to spend every waking moment seeking pleasure does not lead to a satisfying life.
Where do you put your focus? Do you work too much and rest too little? Are you constantly seeking pleasure and excitement? There is actually a psychological disorder called Anhedonia which means fear of pleasure. When I am being honest with myself, too often I put work ahead of time spent just enjoying the good things of life. Last week Joyce Meyer was speaking of people who are so spiritual they become weird. Even living an extreme Christian lifestyle is unbalanced when not enough time is spent on just plain good, old fashioned fun activities.
Realizing my tendency to work too much, I decided to change. So, last night Jim and I went to a concert. What a nice break from our boring routine. I believe that God is calling me to have more fun. Yes, God wants us to enjoy our life; perhaps not be so, so serious about everything. A friend just today sent me an e-mail with the following Dr.’s advice: “And remember: “Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways –Chardonnay in one hand – Chocolate in the other—body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming “WOO HOO, What a Ride!”
Balance in everything. But a little more Chardonnay and Chocolate would be great! How about you? Do something fun this week. It’s good for your health!
Affirmation: I now choose to make my life, light, easy, and full of fun.
Laughing more and enjoying each day,
