Have you ever felt broken? Sometimes life deals us blows that crush our spirits. And
we feel that we will never be whole again. We feel like we will never again feel peace. We cannot even envision a day when we will wake up smiling. Sometimes we wish we wouldn’t wake as facing another long anguished day is just too excruciating to comprehend. Have you walked that dark valley of desperation? I have.
I have been reading the journals of the psalmists. Their writings give us insights into the pain that, at times, we all feel. “To God, my defender, I say, “Why have you forgotten me?” I have said that. I have wailed,“Hey, I’m here. Pay attention to me. Rescue me.” And the truth is: God is always with us—even in our breaking points. In fact, I believe that it is precisely in those moments, God is calling, “Come to me and I will give you rest!” You and I need to turn our eyes—our focus—from the turbulence of the storm and look fully into His face. In fact, I believe that through the window of our brokenness, in those spirit-crushing moments, we see the face of God most clearly. God extends His hand into the waters of despair and pulls us out of the turbulent waves and into his rescuing arms. This morning, if you are feeling despair, reach out to Jesus; he’s reaching out to you.
Finding the face of God through tear-filled eyes,
