Joy in the Morning
Not by might nor by power, but by MySpirit. . . Zechariah 4:6
Hello Friend,
This morning I invite you to get comfy in your favorite chair and have a virtual cup of coffee with me. Now let’s just take a few deep breaths and let our bodies relax. I find that if I want to write, I must create an atmosphere in which I feel the Spirit of God present with me. I cannot write without inspiration. I have tried to write cold. That is what I call those times when I am facing a deadline for a sermon or talk and I try with all my might and power to create. I think thoughts that don’t link together. And the words fall flat—dead on the page. Inspire means to be in spirit. Sometimes when I am inspired, I finish writing and look at the page amazed. I think, “Wow, that is good!” My ego starts to enlarge and then I quickly realize that it wasn’t my words on the page: I was just a vessel being used by God.
So this morning as you sit in your chair sipping coffee, ask yourself, “What inspires me?” What atmosphere or activity brings you closer to Spirit? Do you do this often enough? Why or why not? Perhaps music allows you to transcend to another realm? Or drawing? Or, even a walk on the beach taking in salty air and admiring the seagulls and listening to the rhythm of the tide. For everyone it will be a little different. In order to write, I must be still and receptive. No disruptions of any kind. And the words come. And a quiet joy and satisfaction fills my soul. I long for you to find this fulfillment. Won’t you seek inspiration this week? Take time to be holy.
