Teach me thy way, O Lord. Psalm 86:11
Hello Friend,
What a wonderful prayer, “Teach me thy way, O Lord.” But don’t say these words in a flippant manner. Oft times, I have wanted to go my way. Do my own thing. Travel down the path of my choosing only to find myself tripping and scraping my knees—blood everywhere. How much easier it would have been to have started my journey on my knees! Why does asking God for direction seem so much more difficult than endlessly wandering around the same mountain?
The much longed for Promised Land that had been pledged to Abraham more than 400 years earlier, the land flowing with milk and honey, lay just a few miles away. The Israelites were camped in the land of the Moabites, overlooking Jericho and the plain of Jordan, on the eastern border of Canaan. The Promised Land symbolized freedom, prosperity and rest; all of which the Israelites had not experienced up to this point. Instead, the long, tedious journey began many years before at Mt. Sinai, about two years after their deliverance from Egypt. It should have only taken the Israelites 11 days to reach the Promised Land, but it took nearly 40 years.
A lot of times I find myself in the forty-year mode. A journey that could have taken me 11 days presses on and on, all because God just couldn’t get me to listen. I imagine a frustrated God calling, “Hey Linda, listen up. Pay attention to my way. You just missed the Canaan exit yet again.” Yet, my ears are deafened to His Word.
Do you ever find yourself there also? Do you ever find yourself missing the exit to the good things God has in store for you. Aren’t you getting tired of the scrapes and bruises? I truly believe that God has a Promised Land prepared for each of us. Let’s begin this week on our knees asking God to show us The Way.
Prayer for Today: Lord, I am fearful of falling and tired of failing. I trust you to lead me Lord. Show me the way to peace, joy, and abundant life. Amen.
Learning to lean on Jesus,
Linda
