Hello Friend,
As I write this morning, my thoughts and yours are probably centered on pending Thanksgiving. Some of my teacher friends are anticipating a week off from school. Possibly a vacation trip. Those who are cooking the turkey are looking for new recipes and designing a perfect feast for their loved ones and friends. Stores are anticipating Black Friday and children are already making their list and checking it twice. And most of us are focused on an attitude of gratitude. As I have been reading tweets and blogs, it is interesting to note what folks are most grateful for. No one wants to be trite and say my house or my car; we all say my family or my health, etc.
What am I most grateful for this Thanksgiving? Ordinary moments. Of course, I am thankful for my health and family, but I am most grateful for the ordinary days in which life happens. Moments writing. Moments with a cup of coffee and silent communion with Jim. Moment of stillness. Moments that allow me to cross the bridge between the secular and the sacred. In time, all things will pass away. In the silence, I am able to hear the unexpected utterances of my soul and am reminded that life is eternal. This is not all there is! This is a season. And I embrace them all: the spring of new growth, the summer bloom of enlightenment; the shedding of ritualistic practices that no longer feed my soul. I embrace winter painful moments that allow me to re-evaluate my values and journey. In the ordinary moments, I find my way to the sacred—to what really matters and I am grateful. Lindav
